FIGURE.

FIGURE. is a world I created after being inspired by "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" (Great game btw). I loved the sense of epic scale the game portrayed, especially with the Paintress. The inspiration crashed into my head while I was listening to the soundtrack at work, I instantly scribbled down a rough sketch and couldn't stop thinking about it. I hadn't been this excited about creating something for a while before this idea came to me.

The theme behind the world is observation, watching people in varying emotions but being unable to do anything to affect their persistant state. I thought the idea was really fucking cool, it reminded me of that morbid curiosity that people have, or such a situation where someone falls down in public and everyone crowds around to look. I'm still super happy with how the world turned out and how well the performance is in VR.

Hole

Hole is a world that was created to give physical form to a concept I've had in my head for years, a void that encompases a circular pit that you're able to sit on the edge of. While the concept only featured the pit, I decided to add some other aspects that aligns with the original theme such as a "memory bank" and a statue that portrays the ideolgy of "I need to leave my head behind my heart". You can find out more about this world by checking out my blog.

The environment is cold and bleak with only a handful of light sources to see through the dense fog. This was my second biggest project after FIGURE. and, unlike that world, didn't take as long to get right. Due to it being indoors, lighting was fairly easily to nail down. As I created the world, new ideas popped into my head for additions to the environment which came in the form of the "memory bank" and the statue.

A place to smoke

This world is a recreation of a park I used to visit often when I was staying with my parents for a couple months. Every night, roughly at 10pm, I'd take the two minute walk to the park and sit on one of the benches. I'd have my headphones on, playing some Sufjan Stevens or Nick Drake, and I'd gaze into the starry sky as long as the clouds were being kind that day and decided not to show up.

The recreation I made is a smaller version of the park, it's effectively been cut in half so the project wasn't colossal, yet I think I recreated the vibe fairly well. The fake volumetric lighting was integral to the recreation, I had some trouble getting it working but managed to figure out the cause after a few days (Turns out, baking a Directional Light with Bakery disables the original Light and stops anything that needs a Directional Light from working).
