I kinda want to talk about some of the music I've had on repeat recently. Normally I listen to either techno (anything techno adjacent, really), indie rock, math rock or breakcore/breakbeat stuff. However, recently I've been dipping my toes into some slower, acoustic stuff. I'll list some of them here.
I've been listening to A LOT of Sufjan, he's on repeat when I'm walking outside at night. He leans into the folk side of things, but this doesn't mean he just uses an acoustic guitar. His instrumentation on his songs are lush, pretty and simplistic. The melodies accentuate the theme, and each song has such a strong theme and emotion that it's hard to listen casually. His lyricism is also a favorite, I'm rarely attracted to lyrics in songs but he's a different case. Particular favorites of mine are "The Only Thing", "Vito's Ordination Song", "To Be Alone With You", "Chicago", and "The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out To Get Us!".
Nick Drake has been a pleasent find, discovering him after watching a video on his chord choices on the song "River Man". Sadly, he's no longer with us, but his music is infinitely pretty and haunting. Most of his songs are just an acoustic guitar and his deep, breathy voice. Though some of his tracks feature pianos and string sections, making for beautiful arrangements. His guitar talent and his ear for picking out unique sounds was magical to listen to. Some of my favorites are "Place To Be", "Which Will", "Pink Moon", "Parasite", and "Time Has Told Me".
A talented man of icelandic descent, one part of the two piece "Kiasmos" (A band that deals in deep house-esque music). I discovered him through Kiasmos after I was looking for music for a DJ set. His solo work I class as "modern classical", beautiful string and piano sections that create amazing visual landscapes. Every time I listen to his music, I'm always persuaded to sit down and take in the music. Particular favorites of mine are "brot", "re:member", "0952", and "1440".
That's about it. I might post more about what music I'm listening to next month, or next week, or tomorrow. Idk, depends what I'm feeeeeling. Thanks for reading anyway :)
